International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) Canada - Completed 2025
Completed a multi-course certification program through IAP2 Canada, focused on designing and delivering meaningful and effective public engagement.
Training included:
Fundamentals of P2 and Engagement: grounding in the principles and best practices of public participation
Applying Methods: evaluation and selection of engagement tools and techniques to support inclusive and transparent decision-making
Designing Public Participation and Engagement: advanced instruction on planning, scoping, community mapping, and creating engagement strategies tailored to diverse audiences
Emergency Management Ontario - Completed 2023 & 2024
Trained in the standard provincial framework for emergency communications and operations in order to act as a member of the Municipal Emergency Control Group.
Lakehead University - Completed 2022
Completed with an additional specialization in Northern Ontario. This program deepened my understanding of tourism development strategy and visitor readiness, adding an academic layer to my on-the-ground experience. Created a Digital Content Tool as my capstone project, designed specficially to be deployed in small communities with limited resources, to easily identify gaps and realistic opportunities to create and leverage digital content to increase tourism receipts.
First Nations University of Canada - Completed 2021
Completed as part of my ongoing professional commitment to reconciliation, inclusion, and cultural awareness in all aspects of community development.
Leadership Thunder Bay - Completed 2016
Developed cross-sector leadership skills, community project planning, and stronger public speaking ability. Completed a Community Action Project on behalf of the City of Thunder Bay's Anti-Racism and Respect Advisory Committee - The Unity Project was designed as an education and public engagement project specifically focused on youth.
Was voted by my classmates to be the co-emcee of our graduation ceremony. Also have been invited to co-host Leadercast twice.
After graduation, I served two years as a member of the Marketing and Communications Committee and I was also featured in a campaign highlighting program graduates shaping the future of the city.
Confederation College - Completed 2011
Awarded with the Academic Award of Excellence upon graduation as the student with the highest overall GPA in the program. This program grounded me in strategic marketing, brand development, and audience research... all skills that I’ve expanded upon throughout my career.
Completed my work placement as a member of the Confederation College Business Solutions team. A special consulting team that worked with real-world business clients to solve actual business problems. Clients included Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce, Primary FotoSource, Telos Business
Confederation College - Completed 2001
Completed my placement with MidCanada Production Services in Winnipeg. Learned the technical side of storytelling from the ground up... lighting, editing, scripting, production. These skills have stayed with me across nearly every role I’ve held since.
Later served a number of years as a member of the Broadcasting: Television Industry Advisory Committee at Confederation College.
Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO) - In Progress
This program is helping expand my formal understanding of local government structures and legislative frameworks... useful context for a leadership role in a public sector environment.
